I consider myself a life-long learner. When I was in college, I thought things would fall into place the way it had been portrayed to me throughout my life: graduate from college, start a career, maybe get married, start a family, and then retire. It didn’t pan out quite that way, and, yes, there were some bumps and detours along the way. Many of us create a vision of a linear path of what our lives ought to be like, but life often has other plans for us – life is not very structured and sequential. These bumps in the road allowed me to take a closer look at myself and gave me the freedom to continuously reinvent and challenge myself. They propelled me to pursue my passion for helping others on their journey.
I recently came across this picture, and it resonated with me and reminded me of the ups and downs I experienced in my life. Although at times I have doubted myself and the paths I have taken to achieve my goals, one thing remained constant: I never gave up.
As you look ahead and plan for graduate school and your career, remember that you don’t need to have a linear path in life to be successful. In fact, admissions committee members want to read about your reality: your experiences, the ups and downs that have shaped who you are, and why now is a good time for you to go to graduate school.
For years, I have served as a resource to those seeking inspiration, help, and advice on applying to graduate school. Working alongside people for the past two decades has made me realize how much of my personal and professional experiences and expertise in graduate admissions consulting come through in my work. I want to share more of my passions and thoughts about higher education and student life experiences.
Take some time to explore the blog, read something interesting, and feel free to reach out if you would like to collaborate on a project together.
